Understanding Ship Management Duties |
Ship management involves a wide range of activities, from hiring staff members to coordinating logistics and arranging for repairs. A ship manager must coordinate the training of new crew members and ensure their safety while onboard. Environmental protection requirements must be followed as well. Ship management also includes routine inspections of both the safety systems and ship maintenance, and arranging for any necessary repairs.
If you control a large fleet of ships, you must understand their engineering, because you will be responsible for coordinating not only repairs, but also ship building and conversions. You will need to be knowledgeable about these aspects of ship management so that you can direct subcontractors and inspect their work.
All of these ship management tasks can be difficult to coordinate, but they’re a necessary part of managing a large fleet of ships.
